December 2009

The holidays are a time to be thankful, give back and make the world a little bit better. During this season, why not give a gift and help those in need at the same time. Here are a few groups that provide the opportunity to spread some hope and joy to all and make a difference at the same time:

46NYC
Created in late 2007, 46NYC was inspired by the desire to do something worthwhile and creative. It is an effort to make a difference in the fight to improve the lives of children worldwide. Using a common necessity, like clothing, they partner with various non-profit organizations to raise awareness and contribute on topics such as abuse, poverty, disease, birth defects, education and nutrition. JustGive.org
For everyone in your life, gifts of charity are the perfect choice. Whatever cause matters to your friends, family or colleagues, with JustGive, it's easy to give. Through a single site, you can give to more than 1.5 million charities working throughout the world. All you have to do is decide the ways you want to spread the holiday cheer:

- Make a donation to a favorite charity in someone's name.

- Purchase a GiveNow Charity Gift Card—Choose from more than a dozen images to find just the right e-card to express your sentiment (Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza and more), add your personal message, and let your recipient donate to the charity of their choice.

- Select a Gift Collection with a "basket" of four charities supporting a specific cause.

Create a Gift Registry so others can donate to charity instead of purchasing a traditional gift for you.

FEED Projects
FEED Projects is a small business that donates a portion of the proceeds from the purchase of our FEED bags to the UN World Food Program's school feeding operations and raises awareness of the problem of child hunger. School feeding is one of the most effective solutions to stopping hunger and breaking the poverty cycle—this food draws children to school who might not attend otherwise, and gives them the energy to learn while also empowering them to better their lives. When boys and girls are given a free, nutritious meal in school, research has shown that attendance increases by 100% and performance improves greatly. In partnership with The FEED Foundation, FEED Projects has provided over 50 million school meals to children in the developing world through the United Nations World Food Program school feeding operations, donating over $5.1 million for this initiative. TOMS Shoes
In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in a village in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS Shoes, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One. To date, TOMS has given over 150,000 pairs* of shoes to children around the world. For more information please visit www.TOMSshoes.com.
