Where can I watch my ABC shows?

Who can access ABC shows, ABC.com and the ABC app?

Anyone physically located in the U.S. or its territories (including Puerto Rico, Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands) with access to a broadband internet connection, and a supported web browser, mobile, or streaming TV device. If you subscribe to ABC through one of our participating TV providers (and your subscription is in good standing). you have access to additional content.

Can I watch content on ABC.com and the ABC app if I'm outside the U.S.?

No - ABC.com and the ABC mobile & TV streaming app content are  only available if you're physically located within the U.S. or its territories (including Puerto Rico, Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands).

What is the ABC app?

The ABC app is a single destination to enjoy your ABC shows on your schedule. With the app, you can watch full episodes of ABC shows you know and love and stream live TV on smartphones, tablets, your computer and over-the-top devices. It puts access to the network right into your hands - at home, or on-the-go.

Can I stream my device to my TV using Chromecast?

Yes, Chromecast is currently supported on Apple iPhone, iPod, and iPad, and Android phone & tablet device, as well as on google Chrome web browser for Windows and Mac.

Can I stream my device to my Apple TV using AirPlay?

Yes, AirPlay is currently supported on Apple iPhone, iPod, and iPad, and Safari web browser for Mac.

How do I access full episodes on demand?

ABC.com & the ABC apps on mobile, tablet, and connected TV devices  feature hundreds of full episodes from your favorite shows, movies, and specials. Many of these episodes are free to watch while others require verifying your participating TV provider account.

If you have not yet verified your participating TV provider, full episodes have the lock symbol or VERIFY TO WATCH label. episodes can be found on the homepage of ABC.com, the home screens of the ABC apps, and in the shows section.

If you have already verified your participating TV provider, all episodes are unlocked to view, and streaming will begin playing back in your web browser, mobile, tablet, or TV streaming device.

When do new episodes get added to ABC.com & the ABC apps?

New episodes are typically added the day after they air on TV. Access to the most recently aired full episodes may require verifying your participating TV provider account. The locked episode for many shows will become available to watch without verifying a participating TV provider account 8 days after the episode first airs on TV.

The lock symbol, and Verify to Watch label identify which episodes require you to verify your participating TV provider account. 

I can't find the episode that I was watching anymore.

The episode or program may have expired and is no longer available on ABC.com, or on the ABC mobile & TV streaming apps. If it has expired, we unfortunately no longer have the rights to distribute it online.

Where is live streaming available?

The ABC live stream is currently available in the following areas with a participating TV provider: Chicago, Fresno, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Raleigh-Durham and San Francisco.

Customers with a DirecTV subscription in the following markets will also be able to watch the ABC live stream: Albuquerque, Boston, Ft. Smith/Fayetteville, Jackson (Mississippi), Kansas City, Milwaukee, Monterey-Salinas, Oklahoma City, Omaha, Pittsburgh, Portland-Auburn (Maine), Savannah and West Palm Beach.

ABC live streaming is included with your TV subscription service. The ABC live stream for your local station is determined by your physical location. Why doesn't the live stream match what's on my live TV broadcast?

The content programming in the ABC live stream may differ from what's on your TV screen. Program substitutions may apply.

How do I turn off Closed Captioning?

Closed Captioning (CC) is available for all video-on-demand (VOD) full episodes. Most live streaming programming also has Closed Captioning available.

Follow these steps below to turn Closed Captioning ON or OFF:

  1. During playback, select the "speech bubble" icon at the bottom of the player window.

  2. Navigate to the Closed Captioning "cc" button option.

  3. Select ON to display captions, select OFF to remove captions.

  4. Select SETTINGS to make visual modifications to how your closed captions will appear.

What if my TV provider is not listed?

We are continually adding new cable, satellite, and other TV providers. Go to abc.com/activate and enter the activation code from your device to view if your TV provider is participating in our service.

What if I forgot my TV provider's username and/or password?

Please visit your participating TV provider's website to register for a username and password. Or give your participating TV provider a call for more information.

What if my TV provider and internet provider aren't the same? Which one do I use?

You should use the username and password for your participating TV provider.

How do I activate my device and verify my TV provider?

To activate your device and sign in with your TV provider, navigate to "Settings" in the menu within the ABC app, select "Sign In" and follow the on-screen instructions.

You will receive step-by-step instructions to verify your account by using any computer or mobile device. Apple TV will provide you with a unique activation code that you will need in the verification process.

Follow the steps below to verify your account:

1. Visit the link provided in the activation instructions.

2.  Enter the code from your Apple TV screen into your computer or mobile device.

3. Select your TV provider.

4. Sign in with your TV provider.

5. If your sign in is successful, your full episode playback or live stream will play automatically. 

If the activation code doesn't work, the code has expired. To receive a new code, select the "Refresh Code" button on the "Activate" screen.  

Once you have the new code, follow the steps above to activate. 

Will I be required to sign in each time?

In most cases, there is no need to re-enter your verification credentials. Some TV providers may require you to re-verify your account after a pre-determined time period.

How do I sign out?

To sign out, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to "Settings" in the ABC app.
  2. Select option for "Sign Out [TV provider]".
  3. Confirm that you want to sign out by selecting "Sign Out".

Please note that if you sign out, you will have to repeat the activation process the next time you access the live stream and some on-demand content.

Video playback stalls or is choppy.

Playback should not stop or stall under normal circumstances; however, video delivery may be disrupted during periods of network congestion, poor internet connections, or when too many internet-connected devices are connected at the same time.

Please try one or all of the following:

1. Close the selected app and open it again
2. Disconnect other internet (e.g. Wi-Fi) connected devices that may be connected at the same time
3. Plug your Apple TV into a wire connection instead of using Wi-Fi
4. Restart your Apple TV device as a last resort

Why am I getting an "Out of the country" error message?

The ABC app is only available if you're physically located within the U.S. or its territories (including Puerto Rico, Guam, Saipan, American Samoa and U.S. Virgin Islands).

Also, you may not to access the ABC app via an anonymous proxy IP address. Please use our online feedback form to submit a ticket if you're incorrectly getting an "Out of the country" message.

Is there a schedule feature?

If you have verified with your TV provider and have access to the live stream of your local ABC station, you can view the schedule of your local ABC station by following these steps:

  1. Watch live stream in full screen mode (if you are not already watching in full screen select the live stream thumbnail in the top right of the screen to enter full screen mode)
  2. Press up on your remote or your game controller
  3. Select "View Schedule"
  4. By pressing right on your remote or game controller you can scroll through the schedule of the next 24 hours of live programming on your local ABC station
Can I resume playing a full-episode video from where I left off?

Yes, if you're on the same device, the player will automatically remember where you left off and allow you to resume the video you were watching. Additionally, if your Apple TV (4th generation), iPhone or iPad (iOS 8.0+) are connected to your iCloud account, you may resume where you left off across these devices.

Is closed captioning available?

Closed captioning is available for all video-on-demand (VOD) full episodes. Follow the steps below to turn CC on/off:

To access the Accessibility Menu during video playback in Apple TV (4th Gen)

1. Swipe down on the remote touch surface to open the Accessibility Menu
2. Swipe right on the remote touch surface to highlight "Subtitles"
3. Swipe down on the remote touch surface to make your selection
4. Swipe up on the remote touch surface to close the Accessibility Menu

For "Live" programming, most shows have closed captioning available.

Can I stream my iOS device to my Apple TV using AirPlay?

Yes, AirPlay is currently supported.

Is the Remote application for iOS compatible with the ABC app on Apple TV?

Yes. To activate, follow the steps below: 

1. Download "Remote" application in the App Store from your iOS device
2. Launch application
3. Turn on home sharing
4. Enter Apple ID and password that you are currently using with your Apple TV
5. Once home sharing is on, the Apple TV icon will appear on the mobile iOS device
6. Select Apple TV icon
7. In the top right corner of your device, select the icon with 4 arrows. Mobile device should now act as a remote for Apple TV
