Kate Beckett
Actor Biography

Canadian-born American film and television actress Stana Katic just finished filming the Evan Oppenheimer-directed indie "The Tourist." Filmed in Italy, the project takes a look at the inner workings of a brutal Renaissance Florentine sport called Calcio Storico.

Recently, she starred opposite Alan Rickman and Rupert Grint in the feature film "CBGB," which presented an inside look at New York City's famed punk rock nightclub of the same name. Stana's other feature film work includes "Big Sur," about Jack Kerouac's life after he wrote On the Road. In the film, she portrays real-life legend Lenore Kandel, a San Francisco poet who played a pivotal role in the cultural revolution of the late 1960s. Katic was seen in the Polish Brothers' "For Lovers Only" in 2011, a love story centered on her character, set in Paris and shot in the spirit of French New Wave. Other feature credits include roles in major motion pictures such as Morgenstern in Frank Miller's film "The Spirit" with Samuel L. Jackson and Eva Mendez, Jenny in Robert Benton's "Feast of Love" starring Morgan Freeman and Greg Kinnear, Amber in "The Double" alongside Richard Gere and Topher Grace, and Corrine Veneau in the James Bond franchise "Quantum of Solace" with Daniel Craig.

Katic has three award nominations and five wins -- including one People's Choice Award and three TV Guide Awards. A natural athlete, Katic plays multiple sports and often performs her own stunts. She sings so well that producers have used her voice for the theme song in the third and final film of cable trilogy "The Librarian," in which she also starred. Katic recently voiced the character of Talia al Ghul in the video game Batman: Arkham City. In 2008 she established her own production company, Sine Timore Films, which in Latin means "without fear." The film company is currently in development on two features.

In 2010, Katic started a campaign called The Alternative Travel Project (www.alternativetravelproject.com) in an effort to improve the environment and create a greater sense of community in cities across the globe. This project encourages everyone, everywhere - but especially in car-centric Los Angeles - to go car-free for just one day. The campaign has been extremely successful, leading people around the globe to write, tweet and blog about it.

Katic currently resides in Los Angeles, speaks five languages, and holds dual citizenship in the United States and Canada.

Character Biography

One of the youngest women to ever make homicide detective with the NYPD, Kate Beckett is a tough, smart, first-class investigator known for being a closer. She’s also gained a reputation as a detective who’s intrigued by the sort of cases that don’t fit neatly into a box. It’s a reflection of her ongoing quest for justice. Motivated to join the force after her mother’s murder was never solved, Beckett’s firsthand experience with tragedy fuels her unceasing drive to bring closure and justice to the victims and their families.

Initially forced to work with Castle, she chaffed against his less than serious approach to their partnership, but over time she has come to appreciate his storyteller’s mind. Solving case after case by combining his unique approach with her no-nonsense cop skills, Beckett and Castle have become unlikely partners with a very successful track record. The romantic tension of their early days has now evolved into a burgeoning relationship… Their relationship and many of their cases have been immortalized in five novels: Heat Wave, Naked Heat, Heat Rises, Frozen Heat and Deadly Heat. Although she feigns annoyance, Beckett is a huge fan of Castle’s previous novels and gets a secret kick out of being his inspiration.
