S18 E06 Week 6: Party Anthems Night

04/21/14 | TV-PG | CC

It was an all out celebration on Dancing with the Stars as the celebrities got the party started. The show kicked-off with a spectacular opening performance followed by each couple dancing to some of the greatest party anthems of all-time. Additionally, LMFAO frontman Redfoo was a guest judge alongside Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba. One couple will faced elimination.

• The party got started with a huge number featuring every remaining couple dancing to “Party in the U.S.A.” by Miley Cyrus. It’s okay to admit you were singing along, we were too. Then the week’s guest judge made quite an entrance as hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews welcomed LMFAO’s Redfoo let the ballroom know that it was party time.

• Last week’s rehearsals were no fun for NeNe Leakes and Tony Dovolani, but their performace on the dance floor was their best so far. This week, the love was back and so was the energy—AND the shirtless Tony! While the judges had some notes on NeNe’s technique, they couldn’t deny how good NeNe looked during the performance.

• There was some bad news for Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas when they found out they were in danger of elimination tonight, but there was no time to freak out because their cha cha was up next! Candace said during rehearsals that she has trouble thinking of herself as the “sexy girl,” but she did a great job of letting that side of her come out on the dance floor. The judges saw some improvement in her performance and technique, but gave her some pointers on how she can push herself even farther next week. That is, of course, if she gets the chance.

• Last week’s top couple, James Maslow and Peta Murgatroyd, was feeling the pressure of that perfect score while rehearsing their quickstep for this week. They brought the party with a high-energy blend of musical theater and classical ballroom set to “You’re the One That I Want” from Grease and they had the judges split on how well they did, with Len playing the role of the party pooper this time.

• Despite being number 2 on the leaderboard last week, Danica McKellar and Valentin Chmerkovskiy found out they were in jeopardy this week. That certainly didn’t stop them from throwing down a ferocious and sexy cha cha to “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston and the judges once again responded with high scores. But would it be enough to keep them in the competition?

• Even with a valiant effort last week, Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy didn’t top the leaderboard last week, and the frustration was getting to both of them. But they really came together during rehearsals for this week and the results spoke for themselves. Well, okay, we’ll let the judges do some speaking, too. Carrie Ann said it was Maks’ “best choreography ever.” Bruno said, “it was like a face-off between two killers.” What did that translate to? How about a perfect score!

• Drew Carey was feeling in rehearsals like this may be his last week, but partner Cheryl Burke wasn’t so sure. Despite Drew’s doubts, he worked that dance floor with a super-freaky tango to “Super Freak” by Rick James. Carrie Ann was happy, saying he was “the life of the party,” but the scores didn’t give Drew and Cheryl much to celebrate.

• In addition to the ghost of last week’s dropped cane, Charlie White and Sharna Burgess were haunted this week by a vicious travel schedule and some tough Latin choreography. Then they hit the ballroom with a cha cha so hot it glowed in the DARK! Bruno told them that the dance’s “style was spot-on” and they were rewarded with some of the highest scores of the night.

• This week’s rehearsal footage of Amy Purdy and Derek Hough having some serious fun practicing their jive was a great rebound from last week’s tough trials. And the fun from behind the scenes took center stage as Amy and Derek performed a wedding crasher-themed routine that knocked the judges’ socks off!

• While it was another great night in the ballroom, the party had to end for one couple. This week, Drew Carey and Cheryl Burke waved goodbye to the dance floor.
