Best of Fall 2014: Top Moments of Season 19

By Patty Gopez | Dec 26th, 2014

Dancing with the Stars was filled with toe-tapping highlights throughout Season 19. With a bevy of extraordinary contestants, including Alfonso Ribeiro (better known as Carlton Banks), a Pretty Little Liar, one-half of Cheech and Chong and whimsical fashion designer Betsey Johnson, it’s no surprise that this was one memorable DWTS season! Here are some of the season’s top moments.

Alfonso Stuns on Premiere Night: On the Season 19 premiere of the show, Alfonso kicks things off with a flawless jive performance, earning dance of the night. While most remember Alfonso as his Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alter ego, he proves that he’s not just a one trick pony with his impeccable performance.

Tommy Takes It Off: Week 2 saw Lea and her fast-moving jive that knocked judge Carrie Ann off her feet – literally. That same week, Tommy Chong recalled his salsa experience from his club days, complete with ripping off his shirt!

America, the Beautiful: Janel and Val earn the first “perfecto” of the season on week 3’s Movie Night, with their impressive West Side Story-inspired, jazz dance to  “America.”

It Finally Happened: Week 4 brought about the moment everyone had been waiting for all fall: Alfonso finally does The Carlton! Swinging his arms and shaking his hips to the signature Tom Jones tune “It’s Not Unusual,” Alfonso channeled his inner Carlton Banks – and it was EPIC.

This is Halloween: Bethany and Derek stunned everyone with a near-perfect Paso Doble during week 7’s Halloween Night theme.  Bruno dubbed their dance as the “embodiment of the flames of passion” – and we couldn’t agree more!

One Fun Ride: Tommy’s cheeky samba on week 9 may not have been the best dance of the night, but it was by-far the most entertaining! Tommy left the ladies speechless and the lads wanting to fly Chong Airlines after his performance.

Just Peachy: Sadie and Mark turned on the nostalgia with their Super Mario-themed freestyle – arguably one of the most memorable freestyle routines ever seen on the show. With Mark dressed as Super Mario and Sadie as Princess Peach, their dance was just like the game itself: pure fun all the way through!

And The Winner Is...: While there were many incredible dancers and dances performed this season, there can only be one winner.  In the end, Season 19 crowned Alfonso as the winner of the coveted Mirrorball Trophy! Alfonso was a crowd favorite, as he openly embraced his Fresh Prince roots, performing his famed Carlton dance, as well as a dance to Sugarhill Gang’s “Apache” that was featured on the beloved 90s show.
