Week 11: Season Finale - The Mirrorball Win!

By Jim Donnelly | Nov 26th, 2014

Season 19 kicked off with an Olympian, a NASCAR legend, a fashion icon, a YouTube sensation, and multiple TV/movie stars. They were all on a quest with one team besting the rest to claim the greatest prize in the history of televised Monday night dance shows—the coveted Mirrorball Trophy! Congratulations to Season 19 Dancing with the Stars Champions Alfonso Ribeiro ad Witney Carson. It was a long journey that ended with one more night of competition. Onto the Season Finale highlights!

Looking Into the Mirrorball: The final three teams had about 24 hours to crank out a new routine for their fusion dance. Alfonso and Witney certainly made good use of their time combining a Cha-Cha and Argentine Tango had the crowd on its feet and the Mirrorball Trophy falling to the floor. As you know, it would be raised up again high later that night by this terrific team.

It’s Not Super Mario, But It’s Still Not Too Shabby: Super Sadie and Super Mario (aka Super Mark) sure made memorable impression during Part One of the Season 19 Finale. It was pure fun much like their fusion dance in Part 2. Sadie and Mark put together a sensational Samba-Quickstep combo. They were the runner-up team this season, but they sure danced like champs every time they hit the floor.

It’s Still a Little Hot in Here: As we mentioned last time out, Janel and Val brought heat and passion to every single routine they performed during the season. That may be because Val had his shirt off most of the time. Janel also brought the sexy all season long. This fierce fusion of a Foxtrot and Paso Doble was the perfect final dance for this riveting team.

The 10-Year Wait Is Over: Alfonso said that he had waited a decade for his chance to bring home the coveted Mirrorball Trophy. See his reaction along with partner Witney as they win that championship prize.

One More Time for Mario: The champions have been awarded their prize. You can see a compilation of some of Alfonso and Witney’s top moments of the season (including the Carlton) right here, but we wanted to take one more look at the most memorable routine from Part 1 of the Season 19 Finale: The Super Mario Freestyle!

The Write Stuff: Season 19 is in the books. In the spring, Season 20 will mark the 10-year anniversary of Dancing with the Stars. Some of the pros (and Dancing Champ Alfonso) will be going on tour during the break. One man, however, will likely spend his hiatus stretching the limits of vernacular voracity. Okay, we’re not even sure if that makes sense. But that’s why we’re not working in Bruno’s Writers Room. See you in the spring!
