Asher Millstone was born into a world of Ivy League educations and country club memberships. To his classmates, he's an entitled, uber-prepared know-it-all, but Annalise knows something about Asher that will surprise the rest of the students – and end up making him a pivotal member of the firm.
Matt McGorry stars as Asher Millstone in ABC's hit drama series "How to Get Away with Murder," which is produced by Shonda Rhimes and created by Peter Nowalk. He is also well-known for playing the post-military newbie corrections officer John Bennett in the Emmy-nominated Netflix original series "Orange Is the New Black."
Last year, McGorry starred in the film "How He Fell in Love," written and directed by Marc Meyers, which was nominated for Best Dramatic Feature and Best Film at the 2015 Los Angeles Film Festival; and in "Loserville," directed by Lovell Holder. Next, McGorry will be seen in "Step Sisters," directed by Charles Stone III.
Other television appearances include TNT's "Public Morals," produced by Steven Spielberg and Edward Burns; Emmy-nominated crime drama "Elementary," CW's well-known series "Gossip Girl," the USA original series "Royal Pains," CBS Emmy-nominated crime drama "Person of Interest" and Comedy Central's "Onion SportsDome."
Off-screen, Matt spends his time advocating for gender and racial justice and equality. Notable collaborations include his work with the White House's It's On Us campaign against sexual assault on college campus; #CUT50, which aims to create a smart and safe reduction in the number of people behind bars by 50% over the next ten years; and NARAL, which works to protect and expand reproductive freedom.
Matt McGorry's background in comedy began during college when he was a member of the well-known sketch group Emerson Comedy Workshop. After graduating in 2008, Matt went on to appear in CollegeHumor.com videos and years of improv performance after graduating from the prestigious UCB (Upright Citizens Brigade) Improv Theatre Program.
Matt previously spent time as a fitness expert and has been featured in Men's Health, Men's Fitness, Muscle & Fitness, Life & Style and NY1.
McGorry was born and raised in New York City. He attended LaGuardia High School, the "Fame" school, as a drama major. Following LaGuardia H.S., he attended the Theater program at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts.
