Cantaloupe Agua Fresca
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup basil leaves
  • 1 ripe cantaloupe (rind removed, seeds removed, large dice)
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • seltzer water (to serve)
  • In a medium saucepan add the water, sugar, and basil. Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat until sugar is dissolved, about 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and let steep for about 30 minutes or until fragrant. Strain simple syrup into a blender, add cantaloupe and lemon juice, and blend until smooth. Strain and chill until ready to use. At least 1 hour. Divide evenly between 2 glasses with ice, and top with sparkling water to serve.
  • Tip: Feeling fresh? Add a few ounces of your favorite clear alcohol, like gin or vodka to kick this drink up a notch!
