Cinnamon Sugar Caramel Apples
  • 1/4 package filo dough (5 sheets)
  • 4 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 4 small Granny Smith apples
  • 4 dowel sticks
  • 1 package soft caramels (14 ounces)
  • 3 tablespoons evaporated milk
  • flaky sea salt (for garnish)
  • Preheat oven to 350ºF. Place parchment paper on baking sheet and brush with melted butter. In a small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon. Place one sheet of filo dough on baking sheet, brush with butter. Repeat process until 1/2 package of the filo sheets have been used. Brush the top of the filo stack with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool then crumble into small pieces. Place onto a cookie sheet or large dinner plate.
  • Line another baking sheet with wax paper. Remove the stem from the apples and insert a dowel in the top.
  • In a large bowl, add the caramels and milk. Microwave at 10 second intervals until smooth and melted, stirring in between. Dip the apple in the caramel and then in the bowl with the cinnamon sugar filo dough. Garnish with a pinch of flaky sea salt.
  • Place on wax paper to cool.
  • Helpful Tip: if your apples are waxy, dip them in boiling water for 15 seconds. This helps the caramel to stick to the apples!
