After "The View": Jordin Sparks

By Sydney Berger | Nov 6th, 2014

If we have any say in it, Jordin Sparks seems to be doing quite well for herself. The 24-year-old singer-songwriter dove right into our Hot Topics on th November 6th, 2014 episode of The View as our first "guest-who" co-host. Since being the youngest person to win American Idol at age 17, she has released two albums with multiple hits (“Battlefield,” anyone?), performed on Broadway in the Tony award-winning musical In The Heights, and much more.

After guest co-hosting, Jordin sat down with us to answer viewers’ questions from Facebook and Twitter.

Q:How do you stay motivated and focused in life?

Sparks:“In life, I always go back to my family. My family keeps me grounded. They remind me what’s important. And also, I’ve always just wanted to teach myself, and I’ve just always wanted to become better. I get motivated by everyone else doing all of these many amazing things, and I go: ‘you know what… I’m going to step up my game, and I’m going to do it for me.’”

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Sparks:“My dad said there’s always going to be somebody coming up behind you, trying to take your spot, so you’ve got to be the best that you can be at all times.”

Q: If you could tell your 17-year-old self anything, what would it be?

Sparks: “I’d say: ‘You’re on the right track; don’t doubt so much.’ And for the fans, if there’s anything you want to do in life, it does require hard work. Be kind to people, show up on time—practice, practice, practice—and do your research if that’s what your respective field requires. But if you’re going to do it, make sure it’s what you want to do and tackle it head on.”

Q: What had been the best part about co-hosting The View? And biggest surprise?

Sparks: “The best part about co-hosting was sitting down with the panel of amazing women who I’ve grown up watching, listening to, and admiring; and it was so fun to be able to sit with them. I was surprised with how chill it was! It was so easy; just girls talking on a panel, and I thought that was really great.”
