Paco Contrerasplayed by Gabriel Luna
32 years old, Hispanic, tenacious, stylish and competent, Paco Contreras is a new transfer and Jack Roth's new partner - an ambitious police officer willing to do almost anything to get ahead. His past has made him desperate to improve his present and reconcile with his wife and son.
Gabriel Luna can currently be seen as a recurring character in the second season of “True Detective.” Previously, he starred in the title role in the action drama series “Matador” for Robert Rodriguez‘s El Rey Network.
In film, Luna co-starred in the sports comedy “Balls Out,” which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2014 and was released in June. He can also be seen in the upcoming feature film “Freeheld,” starring Julianne Moore and Ellen Page. His other film roles include the lead in the genre-bending dark comedy “Gravy” and Richard Linklater’s dark comedy, “Bernie.”
Luna made a name for himself in the flourishing independent filmmaking community of his hometown in Austin, Texas, with starring roles in such films as “Spring Eddy” and “Dance with the One,” which were selected into the narrative feature competition at the SXSW Film Festival, and “Fall to Grace.”
In addition to his work in film and television, Luna was active in the Austin theater scene, where he was honored with the Best Lead Actor award by the Austin Critics’ Association in 2010 for his role in “Black Snow.”
Next up for Luna is the independent feature film “Transpecos,” written by Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar, to be directed by Kwedar.
